Bed bugs bite

Bed bugs bites can cause a serious infection or disease though the bite is painless. The salivary fluid that is injected by bed bugs can cause the skin to become irritated and swollen, although the symptoms of the bites differ from person to person. Bed bugs bite exposed skin and leave behind small, red, itchy, small hard welts though they do no generally transmit any disease.

The CDC does say that bites from bed bugs can be treated with topical emollients or corticosteroids. You can also take an oral antihistamine to cure the infection. The itching that is caused by the biting can last for a long time. It can last for several hours or days. It is recommended not to scratch the area as such an act can cause a serious infection though the amount of blood loss that is sucked by these bedbugs does not adversely affect the host. The characteristic signs of bed bugs’ bites is that rows of three or so welts appears on the exposed skin. Some individuals respond to bed bug infestations with anxiety, stress, and insomnia. But with a good treatment it can be cured. Bed bugs are a cosmopolitan pest attacking all where hygiene does not play a role. These nocturnal creature usually bite at night when the host on whom they feed is sleeping. Bedbugs feed for about more or less five minutes. Unlike fleabites, which occur mainly around the ankles, bed bugs feed on any bare skin exposed while sleeping such as face, neck, shoulders, arms, hands.

The welts and itching are often attributed to other causes such as mosquitoes and look a bit like a Scabies infection. For these reasons, infestations may go a long time unnoticed, and can become quite large before being properly detected. It is always better to consult a doctor to get a good treatment of these bedbug bites.
